SIBELMED TRAVELS TO EVEREST
We recently collaborated in the realization of an international pioneering scientific study on the lack of oxygen, the Sherpa-Everest 2017 Project, promoted by the “La Caixa” Banking Foundation and developed by a team from the Hospital de la Santa Creu I Sant Pau, the Research Institute of Sant Pau and the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital.
For two weeks spirometry was performed on Everest to expedition climbers and Sherpas (inhabitants of mountainous regions of Nepal) with the portable spirometer Datospir Micro.
For us, it is a pride that this project bears the Sibelmed seal, since the results of the research will allow us to identify the genetic bases that determine the adaptations to the height, as well as the mechanisms associated to the lack of oxygen or hypoxia and will allow to develop therapeutic solutions For diseases such as asthma and respiratory insufficiencies.
